#14

Hey y’all,

So the cutest yoga class I probably will have ever taught just happened - Goga. It was so great to have some light-hearted fun in honour of Lead-K which campaigns to stop language deprivation in deaf kids. If you want to learn more about Lead-K or if you want to make a donation here’s a link.

And hopefully this is something that will bring a smile to your face - a video of the ASL Goga class. I hope to teach similar classes later on in the year for different charities - I shall keep you updated and let me know if there’s a particular charity that you’d like me to fundraise for.

In other news - Melissa Elmira Yingst, the Melmira host and news personality came to the Sangha workshop on Wednesday to join in and to do an interview - the interview is to come sooooon. I can’t wait to show y’all!

And as for the workshops next week it has been decided that they will all be streamed LIVE online instead. This is great news for people who live out of state - you can finally join us! The link to book the tickets are on the buttons below.

The Monday and Wednesday workshops will be streamed via Zoom (www.zoom.us) which is free for you to download and I will email everyone who has bought a workshop ticket a Zoom meeting ID number which you just click on and hopefully it’ll be…hey presto! You can join the live class on your laptop, mobile or TV - you just need to have a yoga mat and wear comfy clothes. Let me know if you need any help in setting up Zoom. And watch this space with regards to the Friday 7.30pm class. Looking forward to seeing you virtually next week!

Yogic Philosophy of the Week

Yoga is an eight-fold path and the second of the eight limbs of yoga is called Niyamas. Niyamas are how we act toward ourselves, inner observances. The fourth of the five Niyamas is Svadhyaya. Self-study, the education of the self. Which rather timely with all this social distancing going on - it’s definitely a great time to do some self-study!

How can we self-study? Meditating, journaling, reading words of wisdom, practicing yoga - getting intimate with ourselves on the mat is a great way to get to know to ourselves again and again, spending time in nature - nature has a way of making us slow down and making it easier to listen to ourselves, some people like to ask themselves philosophical questions such as ‘Who am I?’, ‘What’s the purpose of my life?’, ‘How have my experiences shaped me as a person today?’ as well as questions such as ‘How do I want to feel about this?’ and ‘Is this what I want?’, ‘Am I living alongside my values?’ and so on and generally becoming more aware of our thoughts and thought processes.

We spend so much time thinking about our external world - this week is a great opportunity to shine a spotlight into our inner world and to glean the jewels that are to be found.

Pose of the Week

The Garland pose (or Malasana). In the interview on Wednesday, Melissa of Melmira asked me what my top three yoga poses were, which by the way was a question I found VERY difficult to answer but Garland did indeed make it into the top three. I find it very soothing just to do nothing else but squat knowing that it’s so good for my health. The grounding quality of this pose makes it a great pose to learn how to stay rooted. And of course, anxiety and fear causes your gut to go out of whack and the Garland pose is especially AMAZING for gut health. You can always tuck a rolled up towel/blanket beneath your heels to make the pose more comfortable to stay in. A squat a day keeps the gut doctor away :o)
