Yogic Philosophy of the Week - Brahmacharya

Yoga is an eight-fold path and the first of the eight limbs of yoga is called Yamas. Practicing the Yamas is said to give the yogi the opportunity to live in a way that is healthier and more peaceful. The third of the five Yamas is Brahmacharya. There are many different definitions of this Sanskrit word ranging all the way from celibacy to conserving your energy. I’m gonna go for the latter ;o)

Last Wednesday evening, at the Secret Church - I taught a restorative class where we held supported yoga poses with all the props possible for 3-5 minutes by candlelight. Restorative yoga is a very healing type of yoga - it allows us to sit with ourselves, increases flexibility, fosters self-love and increases ability to be present. And restorative yoga is also a great way to conserve energy on those days where you just don’t have anything left in the tank physically or mentally.

My favourite restorative pose is the Supported Reclined Bound Angle pose - it feels like absolute BLISS to me. If your curiosity is piqued regarding restorative yoga.

Pose of the Week - Supported Reclined Bound Angle pose

Yes it’s got to be the Supported Reclined Bound Angle pose! You can set yourself up with whatever you have at home - duvets, pillows, cushions, blocks, bolsters, towels - whatever you need to make yourself as comfortable as possible. The cherry on the sundae is having a blanket of some sort around your feet and then pulling the blanket upwards, securing your feet - BLISS.
