#10

Dear friends,

First up: I’m teaching only one public class next week - on Monday at 9am at the Secret Church. And it’s one of my favourite workshops - the inversion workshop! Child’s Pose, Legs up the Wall, Dolphin…they’re all inversions! We’ll be doing all kinds of inversions so you’ll definitely find your favourite. We also have a very special headstand chair which makes it a lot easier to get upside down. It was so fabulous seeing people feel so empowered after doing their first headstand on the chair. And the benefits of inversions; nothing short of incredible - they slow down the aging process, reduce stress and anxiety, improve digestion and circulation, prevent varicose veins, improve your immune system, and increases total body core strength! Come and join us!

ASL INVERSION WORKSHOP (MON 17th FEB)

I am off to a yoga retreat next weekend so the wonderful Emily Smith will be subbing the Friday evening class at the studio on the 21st February - she’s been teaching yoga for 20 years and she’s also worked with deaf people before too. Barbie Greenwater will be interpreting for Emily.

The workshops on Monday the 24th February and Wednesday the 26th February - I am so excited to announce that as a result of a collaboration with Ancient Minerals (magnesium chloride purveyors) and Adrienne Thal - essential oil expert - I’ll be doing an aromatherapy and yoga workshop where you will all get to take home your very own aromatherapy goody that is just perfect for soothing those achy muscles! As a yoga teacher I could not live without magnesium chloride - it’s ahmaaazzing. Book your spot ASAP!

Yogic Philosophy of the Week

Yoga is an eight-fold path and the first of the eight limbs of yoga is called Yamas. Practicing the Yamas is said to give the yogi the opportunity to live in a way that is healthier and more peaceful. The last of the five Yamas is Aparigraha - practicing non-possessiveness, learning to let go, to not have attachment to the outcome. As Krishna said in the Bhagavad Gita (a Sanskrit scripture that we were required to study as part of yoga teacher training) - “We have a right to our labor, but not to the fruits of our labor.”. As in, do what you love - whether you get approval or disapproval from others. This is definitely a work in progress for me!

Pose of the Week

I just LOVED teaching a very special kind of yoga class on Valentine’s Day at the Practice Yoga studio. We celebrated self-love and just having FUN. It was so lovely to see people connecting with each other - and laughing out loud. This why I’m just totally in love with yoga - it serves in so many different ways. It can be intensely spiritual, it can be a great workout, it can be restorative and it can be just downright fun! Here’s a fun ‘game’ that you can try out with your BFFs, co-workers, kids…anyone up for a giggle! Make ‘LOVE’ as seen in the photo below :o)

And I’ll finish today’s Sunday Papers with something I mentioned at the end of the Valentine’s Day class:

‘Everyone is worthy of love. Love, connection, and acceptance – it’s your birthright. And self-love might just be the best kind of love of all.’
