Delighted to announce that I’ll be teaching a goga class on Saturday 14th March at 1pm to raise money for Lead-K.
Deep respect, intentionality and community filled the air at the celebratory launch party of Austin’s first deaf yoga instructor, Lilli Erin Beese.
AUSTIN, Texas — Practice Yoga will begin holding classes accessible to the deaf community after hiring its first ASL yoga instructor.
A big thank you to all the sponsors for supporting the Lilli Erin Yoga’s launch party, you guys have no idea what it means to me.
The 4 classes will be taught in ASL by a deaf and registered yoga teacher Lilli Erin Beese. Suitable for beginners but all levels welcome and hearing people are welcome to join too.
testimonials
“Here, I was able to let go and I truly feel a lot more relaxed. With the ASL yoga classes I am able to learn the names of poses and breathing techniques and the correct way and what muscles I am trying to stretch. All of those little details are extremely helpful. This is my first time taking an ASL yoga class and I am very excited to continue taking her classes, learning and growing.”
“I have been practicing yoga probably about ten years now. I have only been in Austin about three years but before that I was going to hearing yoga classes. I did not know what to feel in hearing classes, not knowing about the breathing component of yoga you know that deep breathing in and out. I really feel like I missed a lot of really minute details that are actually really significant in yoga.”
“This is my second experience with yoga and both times were with Lilli. I am now addicted. So yoga to me— in my mind I always thought yoga was very auditory based and I really did not have motivation to try it. Then Lilli was telling me about it so I said - okay - I will try it. Then all of a sudden - she was talking about the form, the body movement, the terms and everything - it just became crystal clear what yoga is about and what is involved in the practice and I enjoy it immensely.”
“So I began to learn from Lilli what yoga is and it’s different to what I thought it was before. There’s more color to it, more meaning to it. Now I understand I was breathing wrong before and I realize I was copying people without understanding what I was doing.”
“I feel so much more calmer - even my husband noticed and he told me that I need to keep on going to your yoga classes.”
“Your class makes me feel more able to deal with hard stuff in life.”
“I had no idea that I had all these muscles in my body - even though I'm a sportsman I never thought I would love yoga to be honest.”
“After the yoga class last week - I didn't get annoyed when a car pulled in front of me - I just thought to myself about your message in the class - to let go, and I did.”
“It's been a very stressful day today and your yoga class was just perfect for today.”
“I had never been to a yoga class before because I was so nervous about feeling awkward with all these hearing people and I'm so happy I can finally access a yoga class without feeling nervous.”
“Tonight's class really got me to think deeply. It is no secret that I struggle with my health and I just want to say thank you for an amazing experience.”
“I've been doing yoga for ten years but with teachers that can't sign and I've only just discovered that, that pose is called Wild Thing and I'm so happy to finally have a name for it.”
“Looking forward to understanding and feeling confident again with the ASL Yoga class - thank you Lilli for re-introducing yoga to me.”
“Thank you Lilli for reminding us to celebrate our bodies. To be with our bodies. To celebrate the movements it can make. And to celebrate the limitations and knowing how to listen and respect our bodies. Thank you for a wonderful class!”
“It was amazing to get all the important information with each breath, pose and movement...all in ASL - thank you Lilli, I can't wait to come back next week!”
